Reed and electric diffusers have become popular choices for enhancing the ambiance of homes and offices with delightful fragrances. The effectiveness of these diffusers largely depends on the quality of the oil base used. This description delves into a specialized oil base formulation made with dipropylene glycol (DPG), special denatured alcohol (SDA), and dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether (DPM). This combination ensures optimal fragrance diffusion, stability, and safety.

Key Ingredients:
Dipropylene Glycol (DPG)
Role: DPG is a versatile solvent known for its excellent fragrance-carrying properties. It helps in evenly distributing the fragrance throughout the oil base, ensuring a consistent scent release.
Benefits: It is non-toxic, non-irritating, and has a low odor, making it ideal for use in diffusers. DPG also has a high boiling point, which helps in prolonging the diffusion process.

Special Denatured Alcohol (SDA)
Role: SDA acts as a solvent and a carrier for the fragrance oils. It helps in thinning the oil base, which is crucial for the proper wicking action in reed diffusers and efficient vaporization in electric diffusers.
Benefits: SDA is specifically formulated to be safe for use in home fragrance products. It evaporates quickly, aiding in the immediate release of fragrance when the diffuser is activated.

Dipropylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether (DPM)
Role: DPM is a glycol ether that serves as a co-solvent, enhancing the solubility of fragrance oils in the base. It also helps in stabilizing the mixture, preventing separation of components.
Benefits: DPM is known for its low toxicity and mild odor. It improves the overall performance of the diffuser by ensuring a steady and controlled release of fragrance.
Formulation and Properties
The combination of DPG, SDA, and DPM creates a balanced oil base that maximizes the efficiency of both reed and electric diffusers. Here are some key properties of this formulation:

Solubility: The blend ensures that fragrance oils are fully dissolved, preventing any layering or separation issues. This is crucial for maintaining a consistent scent release.
Viscosity: The presence of SDA helps in reducing the viscosity of the oil base, making it suitable for use in reed diffusers where the oil needs to travel up the reeds efficiently.
Evaporation Rate: The formulation is designed to have a controlled evaporation rate. DPG and DPM help in slowing down the evaporation, ensuring a long-lasting fragrance experience.
Safety: All components used are non-toxic and safe for use in home environments. The formulation is free from harmful chemicals, making it a safe choice for families and pets.
Application in Reed Diffusers
Reed diffusers rely on the capillary action of the reeds to draw the oil base up and release the fragrance into the air. The formulation of DPG, SDA, and DPM ensures that the oil base is thin enough to travel up the reeds but viscous enough to prevent rapid evaporation. This balance is crucial for maintaining a steady and long-lasting fragrance release.

Wicking Efficiency: The reduced viscosity due to SDA ensures that the oil base travels up the reeds efficiently, providing a consistent fragrance release.
Longevity: The high boiling point of DPG and the controlled evaporation rate of DPM ensure that the fragrance lasts for an extended period.
Application in Electric Diffusers
Electric diffusers use heat or ultrasonic waves to vaporize the oil base, releasing the fragrance into the air. The formulation of DPG, SDA, and DPM is ideal for this application as it ensures a consistent and efficient vaporization process.

Vaporization: The presence of SDA aids in the quick vaporization of the oil base, providing an immediate fragrance release when the diffuser is turned on.
Stability: The formulation remains stable under heat, ensuring that the fragrance oils do not degrade during the vaporization process.

Application Level/Limit

The fragrance load of this product is 15-20%.

Always check this against the maximum usage per Fragrance Oil under the IFRA guidelines. For example if you make a diffuser base with an oil that only allows 2.5% for room sprays, then you are only able to use 2.5% load instead of the normal 15-20%.

Please test with different fragrances as not all scents will have the desired effect/smell due to the mixing with the base's ingredients.
